The 16th annual Paul Fabbri Memorial Golf Outing

The 16th annual
Paul Fabbri Memorial Golf Outing will be held Saturday, August 10 at
the Chevy Chase Country Club, 1000 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Wheeling at 2
p.m.  Proceeds raised will benefit the American Brain Tumor Association
(ABTA) in memory of Paul Fabbri.  Tickets are available and donations
can be made at www.paulfabbri.com.
This year’s event will be highlighted by the participation ABTA
President and CEO Elizabeth M. Wilson, celebrating the progress made in
the ABTA’s 40th Anniversary year. In addition, leading brain tumor
researcher Dr. Braden C. McFarland of the University of Alabama,
operating under a grant in Paul’s name, will speak on her successes to
date.

Paul “Paulie” Fabbri, whose formative years were spent in the Edison
Park area of Chicago and Morton Grove, became the star point guard on
the Niles North regional championship basketball team in 1985.
Collapsing following a workout in 1988, he was diagnosed with a brain
tumor at the age of 21. After Paul’s first surgery and radiation
treatment, he recovered to enjoy several healthy years. Unfortunately,
his tumor recurred and he endured two more major operations prior to his
death on June 13, 1998 at the age of 31. Paul never took people for
granted and always expressed genuine gratitude for whatever kindness he
received.  A favorite expression of his was, “You didn’t have to do
this.” The kindness of people really touched him.  His courageous fight
inspired his family and friends to build on his legacy.

This annual golf outing fundraiser, coordinated by family and
friends, has directly funded research grants to brain tumor specialists
advancing new treatments the last several years.  Proceeds have been
utilized by the ABTA to help families living with, and fighting, brain
tumors.  To date, the Paul Fabbri Memorial Golf Outing has raised over
$240,000.

Golf packages are $125 and include golf, lunch and dinner.  For
those who would like to attend the dinner only, the cost is $35 per
person.  Registration begins at 12 noon, with lunch available at 1:00
p.m., and a "shotgun" start will begin at 2 p.m.  Immediately following
the round, a cocktail hour will begin at 6:30, followed by dinner and an
awards program at 7:15 p.m.  Raffle tickets can be purchased in
advance, as well as on the day of the event.
