Power of the Purse

LAKE COUNTY, IL (October 25, 2012)-- United Way of Lake County’s Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) is harnessing the ‘Power of the Purse’ to give women and children of Lake County the opportunity to succeed.

Founded in 2005, the Women’s Leadership Council is dedicated to uniting leadership and resources to make a difference in the lives of women and children in Lake County through volunteerism, philanthropy and leadership development.

At the ‘Power of the Purse’ event, women from Lake County are invited to enjoy an evening of networking, wine tasting and a vendor fair featuring decadent desserts, purses, jewelry and much more.

“The Power of the Purse is a wonderful annual event that brings together women that want to make a difference in their community,” said Patrice Maloney-Knauff, Chair of the Women’s Leadership Council.  “We invite all women to join us and learn more about the efforts of the Women’s Leadership Council.”

The seventh annual ‘Power of the Purse’ event hosted by United Way of Lake County’s Women’s Leadership Council will be held on Wednesday, November 14 at the Arboretum Club in Buffalo Grove.  During the event, WLC members and guests will mingle, network and enjoy a vendor fair, featuring a wide variety of local vendors, including jewelry (Charlotte Muzik, Triffany Gruber and Strung Out Design), purses (Miche Bags and Jazzy Designs), fun gifts (Thirty-One and Brittane's Designs) as well as Wine Shop at Home and Godiva.  Vendors have graciously agreed to donate 10% of all purchases to United Way of Lake County’s efforts to prepare children to succeed in a changing world.

About United Way of Lake County:
United Way of Lake County (UWLC) is preparing our children to succeed in a changing world by focusing on education and building safe and stable families. Working with nonprofit agencies and community partners, we have identified four key programs to prepare children to succeed: Success By 6 Program – prepare for kindergarten; Reading Success Program – read at grade level; Stay in School Program – graduate high school; Safe and Stable Families Program – empowering families. UWLC is overcoming reading and educational barriers by reaching children, from preschool through high school, through these key programs.  The overall effect and benefits are multiplied by the strong collaboration with agencies and our community partners. www.liveunitedlakecounty.org
