Starlights Send Five Teams to Synchronized Skating Nat’l Championships

Champion Preliminary Team to appear on CBS2 Morning News on Tuesday

It was a successful weekend of performances for the Buffalo Grove-based Starlights Synchronized Skating Teams. A grand total of five Starlights teams qualified to compete next month against the best in the nation at the U.S. Figure Skating 2013 Synchronized Skating Championships in Plymouth, Mich. Skaters punched their tickets for Plymouth after turning in strong performances at the Midwestern and Pacific Sectional Championships held in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The Starlights Senior team earned first place gold medals in Kalamazoo while skaters on the Novice, Intermediate and Adult teams won pewter medals for 4th place finishes. The Starlights Juvenile team earned a spot at next month’s championships by taking 5th place. All teams competed against the best synchronized skating teams in the Midwest and western U.S.

Two other Starlights teams of younger skaters who compete in non-qualifying divisions also did well in Kalamazoo. The Open Juvenile team finished in second place in their competition group and the Starlights Preliminary Team won first place.
