School District 96 Adds A Dash Of Family Fitness Fun

Brand New 5K Run & Walk to support Kildeer-Countryside School District 96

Looking to start the new school year on the right foot? Area students and parents have a great opportunity to make that happen by literally hitting the ground running–and walking!

Kildeer-Countryside School District 96 will hold its inaugural D96 Dash 5K run and walk at 8 a.m. on Sunday, October 2nd. In addition to promoting healthy living and physical fitness, registration proceeds will support technology and 21st century learning at all seven District 96 schools.

“We’re really looking forward to seeing students, faculty, and families come together for this great collaborative event,” notes District 96 School Superintendent Julie Schmidt. “Promoting healthy activities goes well beyond gym class and this is the perfect opportunity for children and adults to have fun exercising together for a great cause."

The event will start and finish at Twin Groves Middle School at 8:00 a.m., with runners and walkers starting by heading south on Buffalo Grove Road before winding their way through the Rolling Hills subdivision. The Buffalo Grove Police and Fire Departments have been involved in planning the 3.2 mile course for students and families. Buffalo Grove Road will be blocked to vehicle traffic beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Several area businesses, including Sunset Foods and the Buffalo Grove Fitness Center, are among the generous D96 Dash sponsors. Many sponsors will have booths set up around the start-finish area and will offer post-event activities and snacks.

Online registration is only $15 per person in advance and $20 on the morning of the event. Participants receive an official D96 Dash T-shirt. Children in strollers are free (no shirts provided) and children 13-years-old and under must be accompanied by an adult for after-Dash activities.

The D96 Dash is open to all runners and walkers, including residents from outside District 96. To register and learn more about the D96 Dash, please click on the District 96 Dash logo on the district’s home page at www.kcsd96.org

Walk or run, but don’t miss the fun. All are invited to join students, faculty, and friends in supporting technology and 21st century learning opportunities for District 96 children. The D96 Dash will be held rain or shine. For more information, call the District 96 public information coordinator at 847.459.4260, ext. 7722.
