Raising the Bar: Lake County Judge Receives Highest Judicial Ratings

Lake County Judge Daniel B. Shanes receives highest ratings from two local bar associations.

Circuit Judge Daniel B. Shanes was evaluated by two local bar associations as part of the upcoming election process and each awarded him their highest rating.

The Lake County Bar Association (LCBA) found Judge Shanes "highly recommended," its highest rating and over 95% of the LCBA membership, who responded in polling, recommended that Judge Shanes continue to serve as a Circuit Judge. LCBA evaluates judicial candidates on integrity, impartiality, legal ability, temperament, and court management ability using an extensive application and interview process.

The Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) also conducts a poll of its membership and also awarded Judge Shanes its highest rating "recommended." The ISBA poll asks members to evaluate judicial candidates based upon similar qualifications, including integrity, legal ability, and temperament.

"Receiving the highest ratings awarded by both the Lake County Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association is truly humbling," Judge Shanes said. "It is a privilege to serve our community, and I look forward to continuing to earn that trust and respect."
