Leaping the Barriers to Weight Loss and Wellness

Northbrook weight loss expert helps local spa owner & many others drop those pounds.

If you’ve stuck to your New Years resolution of losing weight and are still seeing results after Valentine’s Day, you may have finally cleared the barriers once standing in your way. But many are still struggling to stay on a plan to get in better shape or are having trouble finding that special inspiration to start one. So how do you get to the point of “crossing the bridge” and overcoming obstacles blocking your path to better health? For some it can be a very personal and private decision, but not so private for those in the public eye.

After New Jersey governor Chris Christie said, “I’m basically the healthiest fat guy you’ve ever seen in your life,” during a recent appearance on a late night talk show, he fired back in the press at former White House physician, Dr. Connie Mariano, when she expressed concern in a separate TV interview that the governor’s weight could trigger future health issues and may be a critical factor in his political future. Christie, clearly not happy with Mariano’s public comments about his waistline, criticized her for passing judgment without ever examining him or knowing anything about him or his family’s health history.

However, the governor also appears to be serious about improving his health. Earlier this month he admitted to reporters that he has a plan to get in shape and added, "I have been remarkably healthy… my doctor continues to warn me my luck is going to run out relatively soon. So, believe me it is something that I am very conscious of.”

“I’ve heard many stories from patients about reasons why they haven’t been able to lose weight as well as reasons that finally encouraged them to get help,” said Dr. Meena Malhotra, M.D., a double board certified internal medicine and obesity treatment specialist at Heal n Cure Physicians Weight Loss and Wellness Center in Northbrook. “Whether it’s a personal goal to achieve better quality of life or a decision finally made with the encouragement of family and friends, it’s very inspiring to help patients take that first step towards properly losing weight and seeing their excitement after dropping those initial pounds.”

It was a doctor’s warning that sparked Heal n Cure patient Teddie Kossof, owner and operator of Teddie Kossof Salon & Spa in Northfield, to seek help. After being told he was becoming borderline diabetic, Kossof turned to Heal n Cure and lost 46 pounds in less than six months on the center’sINSPIRETM Core Wellness Program.

“I finally said I’m going to take the bull by the horns and do something about it,” said Kossof. “This thing about being borderline diabetic, it just really bugged the heck out of me and now with losing the weight, my blood tests are phenomenal and my general practitioner can’t believe the results – he’s thrilled to death because he has to worry a little less about me.”

Kossof, who has undergone heart bypass surgery and has also had both hips replaced, praised Heal n Cure’s ability to customize a weight loss and wellness plan to meet his needs. “They really coach, train and educate you on making a wholesale lifestyle change that really enables you set a course for better overall health.”

“The INSPIRETM Core Wellness Program is the future of modern medicine,” said Dr. Malhotra. “The entire program is an integrative approach to managing an individual’s weight loss goals - taking the whole person into consideration and not just zeroing in on a single problem.”

And it’s not unusual for INSPIRETM program patients to see dramatic results within a short period of time. Participants have experienced remarkable transformations, including:

  • 58% drop in excess weight within the first four months

  • Losing more than 17 lbs. of body fat in only three weeks and able to stop diabetes medication by appointment #3. (video testimonial link)

“It’s great to see people in the public eye acknowledge their willingness to take those first steps towards better overall health and inspire countless others with their personal commitment,” added Dr. Malhotra. “For our patients at Heal n Cure, the next step is building the right plan to treat the whole person, understand why their body is storing fat and help them make the lifestyle and clinical changes that lead down a long path of healthy living.”
