Woodlawn Recognizes Superintendent Award Recipients

During 's eighth-grade graduation ceremony, graduates Olivia Weiss and Riley Shore received 2011 Superintendent Awards.

In her remarks, Superintendent Julie Schmidt noted that Olivia made the most of her years at Woodlawn Middle School as a diligent and focused high honor roll student.

Olivia actively sought opportunities to contribute and did so through the yearbook and scrapbook clubs, as a peer tutor and a new student mentor, and as a crew member one year and a cast member the next year in the school's spring musicals. She also participated in poms and on sports teams, including volleyball and track. Woodlawn faculty selected Olivia for the 2011 Superintendent Award honor, describing her as “supportive, cooperative, and a pleasure to teach.” 

Likewise, Woodlawn faculty chose Riley Shore as a 2011 Superintendent Award recipient for many reasons, including his defining passion for science and technology. His teachers said the high honor roll student poured 100 percent effort into his work.

Schmidt discussed his proving himself as a leader and innovator, writing a grant in seventh grade with science teacher Glen Frank’s assistance to install solar panels on the school roof. In eighth grade, Riley worked with science teacher Rick Polidoro to build an electronic device to launch the rockets that he and his classmates made. She added that Riley’s teachers at Woodlawn will long remember his trademark energy and enthusiasm and predict he’ll make noteworthy contributions in the field of science.
