Storm Causes Damage, Leaves Thousands Without Power

Downed trees and massive power outages have been reported across Northern Illinois.

Tuesday night's storm, which sparked a tornado warning, left thousands of northern Illinois residents without power.

ComEd spokesman Bennie Currie told NBC news tonight that 245,000 customers are in the dark, with 134,000 of those people in Chicago's north region. An additional 55,000 customers in the Oak Park vicinity are without power, he said.

Residents are reporting that trees and branches are down in neighborhoods throughout the area.

A Buffalo Grove Patch Twitter follower reported tonight that Long Grove residents near Route 53 and Long Grove Road are without power, and noted that a tree is down in the area.

The Wheeling Park District's Community Recreation Center lost power around 8:50 p.m. and patrons were evacuated into locker rooms until the storm passed.
