Hipcheck16 Band Assumes New Name

Drummer Mike Terson says Industrial Drive marks a new beginning.

It’s a new era for rock band Hipcheck16. During a performance Friday night at Blues Bar in Mount Prospect, the musicians announced that they have renamed the band Industrial Drive.

The band’s new name was adopted following some changes in band members as well as the recent election of , the band’s drummer, to the Buffalo Grove Village Board.

“There were three other people in the band, two of which are no longer part of the group, who thought it sounded like a cool name for a band and liked the political statement it made,” said Terson, referring to the fact that the band’s used by a commenter on the Daily Herald’s website who directed comments toward 's teenage son. Stone, who alleges that the comments were defamatory, filed a lawsuit in 2009 to learn Hipcheck16’s identity. The suit has yet to be settled.

“The fact that half the band is different, as well as that I am now serving a more public role in the community, I thought it was a good time to make a change,” Terson said, adding that the band’s new name is not based on anything significant.

“I made my point, and I think the First Amendment is safe,” he said. “It's time to move on."
