BGHS Names October Students of the Month

An outstanding student has been selected from each academic division at Buffalo Grove High School to be honored as October Student of the Month.

Senior Nicole Wesolowicz of Arlington Heights was nominated as the honoree of the Career Technology Education department by teacher Corinne Ginder. "Nicole serves as our student assistant in the Little Bison Daycare and is enrolled in the Practicum to Early Childhood Education 4 class, the highest level in the Practicum program," Ginder said. "She is excellent with the children, taking care of not only their physical needs of breakfast, toilet training and 'covering boo-boos,' but also their emotional needs. Nicole's intuition and instincts help her take care of problems and issues before they arise. She is an excellent addition to the preschool program and to the little ones' lives."

The World Languages/Social Sciences/English Language Learners division has chosen junior Abigail Norman of Arlington Heights. World languages teacher Zaya Fusco commented, "Abigail is an outstanding language student, currently enrolled in both French 1 and AP German! She values language-learning so highly that she has given up her lunch to take French. Abigail is responsible, hardworking and a leader in class. She is also internationally minded, having traveled throughout Europe this past summer and can participate in cultural discussions. She has intentions of teaching a language in the future."

Senior Kayla Huber of Buffalo Grove is Student of the Month for English/Fine Arts. English teacher Jeff Grybash nominated her for the honor with the comment, "Kayla is one of those English students who leaves a mark on both students and faculty, alike. Her enthusiasm for literature, debate, and writing is only surpassed by her unique ability to consistently challenge herself in every aspect of her education. Kayla raises the performance of those around her."

The Physical Education/Health/Driver's Education department selected sophomore Jake Siebert of Arlington Heights to be recognized this month. Health and P.E. teacher Chris Stevens said, "Jake is in my Health class right now, and I have had him in my P.E. class in the past, where he was a very hard worker. So far this semester, Jake has over 100 percent in Health class, with perfect scores on each of our first three tests. He also has been giving help to other students in the class when preparing for the tests and other assignments."

Freshman Zachary Masciopinto of Arlington Heights is the Math/Science honoree.  Math teacher Binh Huynh said, "Zach is a hard working, self-motivated student who grasps concepts very quickly and continually demonstrates excellent command of the mathematical materials in class. He takes great pride in his work and shows remarkable insights to some of the most challenging problems.  I am most impressed with his diligence, daily conscientious work, and contributions to the class discussions. A member of the boys soccer program, he was promoted to the varsity squad halfway through the season where he has already made two goals, and yet he hasn't missed a beat balancing the demands of a varsity sport and a full honors curriculum as a freshman with solid A's."

Student Services has named senior Brad Kazmierczak of Arlington Heights as Student of the Month. Individual Resource teacher Chris VanGrondelle commented, "Brad is a quiet, lead-by-example type of senior. In his classes, Brad always helps his peers when they have questions. He has been a member of the varsity golf and volleyball teams during his junior and senior years. Brad works hard and his diligence has paid off. He is a great young man and a great representative of Buffalo Grove High School. Brad plans to go to college and eventually go into the criminal justice field."
