A Multicultural Holiday Celebration

ESL students at the Vernon Area Public Library shared ethnic treats.

English as a Second Language (ESL) students at the wrapped up their fall semester last week with a multicultural holiday celebration. The students each brought a dish to share from their country of origin, creating a smorgasbord reflective of the class’s diversity: Japanese sushi, Indian “seven cup” cake, Chinese shao raisin cake and more.

English as a Second Language is offered at the Vernon Area Public Library free of charge through a regional program coordinated by the Adult and Continuing Education department at Mundelein High School, and funded by a state and federal grant. The class meets from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays and Fridays during the school year at the Vernon Area Public Library.

Other class times and locations are also available, contact Mundelein High School for information at http://www.d120.org/community/adult_education or call 847-949-2200 x1399.
