298,000 Customers Without Power in Northern Suburbs

Commonwealth Edison says it could take multiple days to restore power in the area.

The intense lightning and high force winds that tore through Illinois have left 660,000 people in northern Illinois without power as of 10 a.m. July 11, according to a Commonwealth Edison representative. The representative said that number includes 298,000 customers in the northern suburbs.

ComEd says it's still in its damage assessment stages and that it could take “multiple days” to restore power in the area.

“We have 450 crews that are currently working in the field to get customer restored,” the ComEd representative said.

In addition, ComEd says it may request help from neighboring utilities from other states to restore power in northern Illinois.

“We are expecting to have quite a bit of assistance on hand to help us,” according to the ComEd spokesperson.
