Wheeling High School Celebrates Manufacturing Day

In celebration of the Second Annual Manufacturing Day, Wheeling High School manufacturing and engineering students are giving tours of the school’s manufacturing facility to interested Wildcat students. Held on Friday, Oct. 4, Manufacturing Day is a national event designed to promote and showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers. Tours will be given during the three lunch periods; and to commemorate homecoming week, participating students will receive an etched glass-like homecoming memento created by engineering and manufacturing students. “This is a great opportunity to show students that manufacturing is not the dirty job that it has been portrayed,” said Tom Steinbach, WHS engineering and manufacturing instructor. “Once students see that manufacturing is clean, hands on, and it can be a viable and lucrative career, many sign up for the courses that are offered. After last year’s inaugural Manufacturing Day tour, there was a noticeable increase in the number of sophomores and juniors who registered for the classes.”
