Students and Alumni to Celebrate Buffalo Grove's 2013 Homecoming Week, "Bernie's BG Bash"

Fall is in the air, activities and athletic events fill the calendar, and Buffalo Grove High School is decking the halls with blue and orange in preparation for its 2013 Homecoming week, Oct. 7-12.  Dubbed "Bernie's BG Bash" in honor of the school's Bison mascot, the exciting week is planned by the Student Council as a fun celebration for students, staff, and alumni. The student body will participate in dress-up days, play lunchtime games, and enjoy after-school and evening activities, leading up to the traditional coronation, football game, and Homecoming Dance.

Preliminaries for the festivities begin on Sunday, Oct. 6, with hall decorating from 2-5 p.m.  Each of the four classes will decorate their respective hallways with a different celebratory theme: Seniors—"New Year's Bash" (Formal); Juniors--"Beach Bash" (Luau); Sophomores—"Birthday Bash" (Superhero/Princess); and Freshmen—"4th of July Bash" (Red, White, & Blue).

Homecoming week gets underway on Monday, Oct. 7, with the judging of hallway decorations at 4 p.m. Online voting for king and queen will take place through Wednesday.  The dress of the day is red, white and blue, for the "4th of July Bash."  There will be a watermelon-eating contest at lunchtime.

Tuesday, "Beach Bash," will feature the wearing of luau attire, and everyone will enjoy a hoops contest during lunchtime.

Everyone is encouraged to wear formalwear for Wednesday's "New Year's Eve Bash."  The lunchtime activity will be three "Minute to Win It" games.  The film, "The Great Gatsby," will be shown at 6:30 p.m.

Thursday, "Birthday Bash," will be the day to dress in Superhero and Princess costumes.  Everyone's a kid again—especially at lunch, when Bozo Buckets will take place in the lunchroom.

The highly anticipated Homecoming Coronation & Pep Assembly will take place on Friday from 1-2 p.m., featuring the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King and introduction of the Homecoming Court. The senior nominees, selected by the senior class, are Andrew Apel, Andrew Cole, Steven Donnewald, Amber Guiao, Alicia Harris, Binu Kolenchery, Lea Masciopinto, Brian McCallister, Sarah Ricciardi, and Kris Yambao.  Last year's king and queen, Michael Maley and Mary Zawlocki, will return to relinquish their crowns to this year's Bison royalty.

In honor of Friday's "Spirit Day," students will don blue and orange spiritwear and try their skill at Baggos during lunches.  Varsity soccer vs. Wheeling High School will take place at 4:30 p.m.  The Homecoming Court will make the traditional circle around the track at 6:15 p.m., and varsity football vs. Wheeling will kick off at 7 p.m.

The Homecoming Dance, "BG, Be Gatsby," sponsored by the BG Varsity Poms and held in the gymnasium from 8-11 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, will be the grand finale of the week's activities.
