District 214 Parents and Students with Special Needs Invited to DIRECTIONS Fair

DIRECTIONS, a post-secondary planning event for students with special needs, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at the Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Rd. in Arlington Heights. Registration begins at 6:00 p.m., and the college and career fair will commence at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 8:30 p.m.  The evening is dedicated to assisting families as they begin their investigation into the many post-secondary opportunities available to young adults with special needs.

Many four-year colleges, universities, and post-secondary institutions will be available to distribute literature and discuss their program in detail. Parents, guardians, and students are encouraged to attend and learn what these institutions have to offer them once they have graduated from high school. Family members can also attend four breakout sessions—Career Training, 4-year Colleges/Universities, Life Skills Training, and Community College options. These sessions will run concurrently with the college and career fair. Attendees will receive a compiled transition resource directory that details various levels of support and post-secondary planning information for students with disabilities.
