December 2013 Students of the Month Honored at Buffalo Grove

An outstanding student has been selected from each academic division at Buffalo Grove High School to be honored as the December 2013 Student of the Month.

Senior Allie Linzing of Arlington Heights was nominated as the Career Technology Education Department’s honoree by her Preschool Practicum teacher, Corinne Ginder, who commented, "Allie brings a wonderful presence to the room.  The students respond to her.  Everything is second nature to her.  As her teacher, I do not need to ask her to do things.  She is perceptive and recognizes when something needs to be taken care of.  Her peers respect her in the program and look to her for ideas and support."

The World Languages/Social Sciences/English Language Learners division has chosen junior Rebecca Diamond of Arlington Heights.  Sociology teacher Diane Baldwin said, "It is quite rare to have a student so absorbed into Sociology that she has asked me to help her research schools in this field.  Becky is most deserving of Student of the Month and is such a great representation of our discipline."

Sophomore Maria Mosiychuk of Wheeling is Student of the Month for English/Fine Arts.  English teacher Anna Schultes nominated her for the honor with the comment, "Maria is always very engaged in World Literature class, always spot-on with her analysis of text, and always willing to assist her peers with any help they may need.  Maria has a genuine curiosity about the world and is excited to bring in her expansive background knowledge of world history to our study of literature."

The Physical Education/Health/Driver's Education department selected junior Taylor Harris of Arlington Heights to be recognized this month. Dance teacher Michelle Carrison said, "Taylor is a hard working and talented dancer in class.  She takes the initiative in class to work on her dance skills and choreography and is always prepared and smiling during P.E.  Taylor has a positive attitude towards her peers in class and is also a member of the 325 Club for Fitness."

Freshman Jordan Lawrence of Arlington Heights is the Math/Science honoree.  Successfully navigating a challenging beginning this year, he was nominated by teachers Bruce French and Kurt Kutska with the statement, "Jordan has made continued improvement with his class expectations, completing his daily work, asking questions on any problems he misses, and seeking assistance on any quiz or test corrections.  He is consistently on task and needs no redirection; his grades have gradually improved and now remain consistently good. Jordan is a great example of how students can make adjustments and, with support, bring out the best in themselves.”

Student Services has named junior Rosalie Barrette of Arlington Heights as Student of the Month.  Individual Resource teacher Laura Stock commented, "Rosalie is currently enrolled in a combination of regular, honors and AP classes. She works very hard to maintain her focus, stay organized, complete assignments and prepare for tests. She is a very personable young lady who has steadily raised her grades over the past two years.  Most recently, Rosalie scored in the 99th percentile on the PSAT (Preliminary SAT)/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) that she took in October--one of only four BG students to score that high."
