Buffalo Grove's Science Olympiad Succeeds at State for 7th Consecutive Year

     For the seventh consecutive year, Buffalo Grove High School's varsity Science Olympiad team qualified to participate in the Illinois State Science Olympiad Tournament, held at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign on April 12.  Buffalo Grove was the top-placing team from all schools in District 214 this season and the only school to advance to the state contest.  Science Olympiad is a competition that combines students' content knowledge with processing skills across 23 different science and engineering topics. 

     The following BGHS students placed in the state's top ten in their respective events:

·       10th in State, Chemistry Lab--Kirsten Malec and Katya Konova

·       9th in State, Boomilever (a crane arm constructed of balsa wood)—Malec and Konova

·       9th in State, Mission Possible (Rube Goldberg Device)--Blaire Weinberg and Jonathon Crummy

·       7th in State, Astronomy--Rushi Patel and Nick Stevens

·       6th in State, Material ScienceMalec and Konova

 

     Coached by science teachers Rich Schram and Lisa Raucci and led by student captains Rushi Patel, Kirsten Malec, and Blaire Weinberg, the BGHS Varsity Science Olympiad team also includes Jonathon Crummy, Elizabeth Daulton, Dennis Grossman, Kyle Koblas, Katya Konova, Jonathon Loosa, Amber Malzahn, Glen Smith, and Nick Stevens.
