Buffalo Grove to Host District 214 Symphonic Band Festival

Buffalo Grove High School is hosting the annual District 214 Symphonic Band Festival on Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 7:30 p.m.  The festival includes symphonic bands from Buffalo Grove, John Hersey, and Wheeling high schools. Don Shupe, director of bands at Libertyville High School from 1974 until his retirement in 2010 and currently the director of the North Suburban Wind Ensemble, is the guest conductor. He is a distinguished member of several professional music organizations and has received numerous awards and honors, including the Mr. Holland’s Opus Award, Educator of the Year Award, The John Paynter Lifetime Achievement Award, and induction into the Phi Beta Mu Hall of Fame. Curently, Shupe is active as a clinician and guest conductor for both concert and jazz bands. The performing schools’ band directors at the BGHS concert include Ed Jacobi (Buffalo Grove), Scott Casagrande (Hersey), and Brian Logan (Wheeling).
