Buffalo Grove H.S. Congratulates Its November 2013 Students of the Month

Buffalo Grove High School has selected six students, one from each academic division, to be honored as its November 2013 Student of the Month.

Freshman Maya Lach of Arlington Heights was nominated by business teacher Karen Roberts as the Career Technology Education department’s honoree. “Maya has done an outstanding job in Introduction to Business,” Roberts said. “She goes above and beyond every expectation, as she has completed every assignment/project in an exceptional way. Her creativity, curiosity of the subject matter, and innovation are true inspirations for me as her teacher to experience.”

The World Languages/Social Sciences/English Language Learners division has chosen freshman Glieb Georgiievskyi of Buffalo Grove. Stephanie Ramos, ELL teacher, said, “Glieb has been an excellent role model to all of his peers since the first day of school. He works very hard and is always so respectful and friendly to everyone around him. I love that he always asks questions to clarify and more importantly, he always puts his best foot forward. It is a privilege to be his teacher.

Junior Matt Shapiro of Arlington Heights is Student of the Month for English/Fine Arts. English teacher Peter Eriksson nominated him for the honor with the comment, “Matt is the engaged learner who is on top of every issue in class and owns everything, the good and the difficult. He seeks out ways to improve, without being prompted. In 12 years of holding Socratic Seminars, I have never had such a good one, due to Matt’s participation. He ‘rocked’ it fiercely!”

The Physical Education/Health/Driver's Education department selected senior Zachary Augustyn of Arlington Heights to be recognized this month. Physical Education teacher Christopher North said, “Zach has proven to be an exceptional student over the course of the last three consecutive semesters in the department's newly created Athletic P.E. course. On a daily basis, Zach chooses to commit to his best effort for the duration of each class period. His attention to detail regarding technique and dedication to accurate record keeping has provided maximum strength gains. As a result, Zach has improved his performance not only in class, but also in the pool, as a valuable and productive member of both the boys swim and water polo teams.”

Sophomore Nicole Dowd of Arlington Heights is the math/science honoree. Geometry teacher Kim Kolodziej said, “Nicole is a very hard worker, completes her assignments on time, asks good questions and helps others when needed. If I could have 130 students like Nicole Dowd, I would be one happy teacher!”

Student Services has named sophomore Daniel Lopez of Arlington Heights as Student of the Month.  Individual Resource teacher Laura Stock commented, “Danny is a polite and personable young man who has consistently maintained high grades. In addition, he has worked very hard to improve his standardized test scores, in which he has shown impressive growth. Danny participates in the BG boys soccer program and hopes to also join track this year.”
