Buffalo Grove Competes in 2014 State Finals of Illinois Economics Challenge

Buffalo Grove High School participated in the 2014 Illinois Economics Challenge State Finals, a program of Econ Illinois, on April 10 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Forty high school students and their coaches throughout the state convened to compete for the Championship title.

The championship event consisted of written individual and team tests as well as a quiz bowl round of competition.  This year 394 students participated in the online round of competition in March, with 10 teams qualifying for the state event. Willowbrook High School outscored 2nd Place York Community High School during a close final round in the state competition.

"Our students were great representatives of Buffalo Grove High School during the State Finals," said Peter Duffer, who along with fellow teacher, Keith Peterson, coached Buffalo Grove's two qualifying teams, a total of eight students: Daron Bedian, Fred Etingen, Jake Siebert, Max Farbman, Rushi Patel, Sam Welbel, Ryan Eischen, and Steven Donnewald.

"Buffalo Grove was very close to advancing to the national qualifying round and missed by only a question or two," Duffer explained.  "It was a great experience for us to be at the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank and Econ Illinois deserves great recognition as hosts and facilitators of this prestigious event."
