Wheeling High School Jazz Band Named "Grand Champion" at 36th Annual Northshore Jazz Festival

Wheeling High School's highly acclaimed Jazz Band 1 captured the Grand Champion Award at

     Wheeling High School's highly acclaimed Jazz Band 1 captured the Grand Champion Award at the 36th Annual Northshore Jazz Festival on Saturday, Jan. 19.  Over 80 jazz bands performed at Glenbrook South High School, where the event was hosted.  Wheeling also captured a Division I Rating and 1st Place in Class “AA”.   

     Cesar Mendoza, WHS junior trombonist, was awarded "Best Soloist of the Day," which includes a two-week summer camp scholarship to the Birch Creek Jazz Camp, in Door County, Wis. 

     The Wheeling Jazz Band 2 also earned a Division I Rating.  Jesse Villalobos, sophomore trumpet player, earned an "Outstanding Soloist" award. 

     The Wheeling Jazz Bands are directed by Brian Logan and Stephanie Melinyshyn.
