Wheeling and Hersey ProStart Culinary Students Compete in Challenge to Combat Childhood Obesity
Ten students enrolled in the ProStart Culinary program at Wheeling High School and one
Ten students enrolled in the ProStart Culinary program at Wheeling High School and one from John Hersey High School will compete at WHS on Friday, March 8, from 12:10-2 p.m. in preparing healthy foods that combat obesity. With the emerging obesity epidemic in children, new 2012-2013 school lunch guidelines have been established and the schools are doing their part to incorporate changes into their lunch program.
Wheeling’s ProStart class taught by Jen Cederberg, in collaboration with the school cafeteria, managed by Maureen Mullane, will have students plan and prepare an entrée and a vegetable side that meet their school lunch guidelines. The Executive Board of Wheeling's Student Council will judge the contest, and the winning student will receive an I Pod Classic.
