An outstanding student has been selected from each academic division at Buffalo Grove High

An outstanding student has been selected from each academic division at Buffalo Grove High School to be honored as the October 2012 Student of the Month.

Senior Carissa Mosillami of Buffalo Grove was nominated as the honoree of the Career Technology Education department by preschool practicum teacher Corinne Ginder for her work with children in the onsite preschool at BGHS. "Carissa is a very responsible high school student," said Ginder.  "She is very empathetic and knows the children's needs.  Carissa is always a step ahead.  If there is an issue or something to be done, she takes care of it without even being asked.  She shares great ideas and comes up with fun activities!  Carissa is energized and always comes to class and work with a smile on her face."

The World Languages/Social Sciences/English Language Learners division has chosen junior Christopher Cooper of Buffalo Grove.  Mandarin Chinese teacher Caili Chiu commented, "Chris is an exemplary student who is always on task with a wonderful, enthusiastic, and energetic attitude. He is very respectful to everyone and is attentive and participates in class all the time. His excitement in learning helps others to also get excited about learning. Chris is a great contributor to the class."

Senior Danealle Khaimskiy of Wheeling is Student of the Month for English/Fine Arts.  English teacher/newspaper adviser Stefanie Pehr nominated her for the honor with the comment, "Danealle is currently one of the Editors-in-Chief for Buffalo Grove's student newspaper, The Charger. Her journalistic interests have also been pursued through an internship with The Daily Herald the past two summers.  During her internship, Danealle was published 18 times, wrote stories in the neighbor section, an editorial, attended press conferences, and also served as a fact checker.  She is also a member of a multitude of clubs including peer counseling, class board, literary magazine, and lunch buddies.  In addition to these cocurriculars, Danealle pursues a rigorous academic schedule including four Advanced Placement courses this semester.  She represents her school and community positively and is an excellent role model for her peers."

The Physical Education/Health/Driver's Education department selected freshman Reed Wilson of Arlington Heights to be recognized this month. P.E. teacher Tom Sullivan said, "Reed has regularly demonstrated all we desire in a student in any class. Reed once commented, 'Why do it if you are not going to try hard?' Reed consistently goes above and beyond to be involved in class and keeps others involved as well.  He never takes a minimal approach, and when we have played games where the team that didn't win has to do extra assigned exercises, Reed does the exercises even when he is on the winning team."
