Buffalo Grove High School has chosen Students of the Month for November 2012, with selections based on the efforts and contributions of one student in each of the six divisions of the school.

Junior Imari Guccione of Arlington Heights was nominated as English/Fine Arts Student of the Month by English teacher, Peter Eriksson. "Imari, an American Literature student, has been strong and steady all semester," said Eriksson.  "She participates quite effectively in a nearly silent class, provides insight on a daily basis in readings, and also serves on the newspaper staff with earnest intent every day. She has shined in her own quiet way all semester."

Freshman Areli Ramos of Mount Prospect was nominated by ELL teacher Stephanie Ramos to be honored as the World Languages/Social Science/English Language Learners Student of the Month. " Areli moved up to (a higher ELL level) after just a few weeks, due to the rapid progress she showed," said Ramos.  "She is consistently working hard and coming in for extra help when needed.  Areli is a great role model for her peers in class and is always helping students around her that need help. She goes above and beyond the classroom expectations and doesn't stop when she hits a hurdle."

Freshman Matthew "Ethan" Lindborg of Arlington Heights is Student of the Month for Student Services.  "In his first year at BG," said Individual Resource teacher, Jamie Lala, "'Ethan' is making a great start to high school life. He has a great sense of humor, a pleasant disposition, and is well liked by his peers as well as staff.  Ethan is a hard-worker who knows how to manage his time well.  He demonstrates this by earning above average grades in all of his classes and participating on the football team."

The Math/Science department recognized sophomore Justin Cavaiani of Arlington Heights for his achievements. Teacher Christine Lindbloom commented, "Justin is the ideal student for any teacher.  In my 14 years here at Buffalo Grove, his work ethic is one of the best that I have seen.  He is always striving to do his best, and he will do whatever it takes to do well.  Justin is always willing to come after school for help, even if it is a Friday afternoon.  This is not the only positive attribute Justin has; he also is one of the most polite students that I have come across at Buffalo Grove."

Career and Technical Education selected sophomore Jessica Kovach of Arlington Heights as the department's honoree. Teacher Karen Roberts said, "Jessica has done an outstanding job in Sports & Entertainment Marketing. Her curiosity of the subject matter is so heartening to see. She has completed every assignment and project in an exceptional way. Jessica goes above and beyond every expectation. It is an absolute pleasure to have her in class. As her teacher, her creativity and innovation are truly inspirational for me to experience."

Senior Molly Bernaey of Wheeling has been named the Physical Education/Health/Driver's Education Student of the Month. Teacher Tim Roe commented, "Molly does everything that is expected of her, and beyond. She enjoys participating at a high level; she is competitive yet courteous. Molly understands that maintaining good health is a journey, which she is working at on a regular basis."

I saw a post about requesting a new toter 2-3 weeks ago and called Waste Management right away toRead More get my name on the list. They told me the new 35-gallon one would be delivered the week of 6/24. When I looked outside this morning upon hearing a truck, I saw that they took my old one and replaced it with the 35-gallon toter. (Today is my trash day.) It may take time for the delivery to occur since it takes longer than when they pickup your trash and it's someone with a different vehicle doing it. The only problem I have with WM is they didn't take the old wicker lawn chair I left out for the trash.

While I understand the intended benefits of these new toters (increased efficiencies by WM, whichRead More should help keep residents' costs down), there has been an unintended consequence to this. As you walk around the neighborhood, you now see the majority of homes having to leave the toters OUTSIDE, even for those who were successful in getting the smaller ones delivered. How many homes now have their garbage sitting alongside their garages, or even out on their driveways, all the time? Not exactly eye-appeal. I was able to fit mine into the garage, barely, next to my recycle toter, but now I can't open the back door of my car when its in the garage. I only hope that the raccoons don't figure out how to lift the lids!
