Homecoming 2012 Week for Buffalo Grove Celebrates "Now and Then," Marking the School's 40th Anniversary

Buffalo Grove High School's 2012 Homecoming week, "Now and Then," will take place Monday

     Buffalo Grove High School's 2012 Homecoming week, "Now and Then," will take place Monday through Saturday, Sept. 24-29. The BGHS Student Council has planned an exciting week of activities and events for students, staff, and alumni, celebrating all the decades of BGHS, from the 70s to the present.  The student body will participate in dress-up days, play lunchtime games, and enjoy after-school and evening activities, leading up to the traditional Homecoming Coronation, football game, and culminating Homecoming Dance.    

     Preliminaries for the festivities begin on Sunday, Sept. 23 with hall decorating and coronation set-up from 2-5 p.m. 

     Homecoming week gets underway on Monday, Sept. 24, "70s Day."  Bell bottoms, disco wear and platform shoes are the dress of the day. The seniors will sponsor a hula hoop game in the cafeteria during lunch hours. The Homecoming Coronation Assembly will take place from 9:06-9:56 a.m., which features the crowning of the Homecoming Queen and King and introduction of the Homecoming Court.  The nominees are: Erin Barton, Michael Beck, Demo Drakoulis, Jillian Lynch, Michael Maley, Andrea Mau, Peter Tsourmas, Andy Walker, Mary Zawlocki, and Calla Ziemba.

     Tuesday, Sept. 25, "80s Day," will feature the wearing of legwarmers, oversized sweaters, acid-washed jeans and parachute pants.  During lunches the junior class will sponsor karaoke.

     There is no school on Wednesday, Sept. 26.

     Thursday, Oct. 27, is "90s Day," and will find the school wearing both grunge and goth clothing. The Blue Crew will sponsor arm wrestling during lunches, and that evening, Movie Night will be held at 7 p.m. at the baseball field, featuring the classic film, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Admission is free.

     On Friday's Spirit Day, Sept. 28, students will wear blue and orange or spiritwear.  The sophomore class will sponsor a dunk tank during lunches.  A pep assembly featuring "Spirit Links" will rev up the crowd and ignite class competition after the regular school day.   Soccer vs. John Hersey High School's Huskies will begin at 4:30 p.m. and varsity football against the Huskies will begin at 7 p.m.  A fireworks show will add to the spectacle following the game.

    Saturday junior varsity football against Hersey will take place at 9 a.m. (freshmen), and 10:30 a.m. (sophomores).  The Homecoming Dance, "Celebrate," held in the gymnasium from 8-11 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, will be the grand finale of the week's activities.
