Elk Grove Qualifies 3 Students for SKILLS USA Automotive Competition
Three students from Elk Grove High School have successfully qualified for this year's SKILLS
Three students from Elk Grove High School have successfully qualified for this year’s SKILLS USA automotive competition in Springfield this April.
Two hundred and thirty-seven students took the qualifying exam on Feb. 15 and the top 45 made it downstate. Junior Michael Cornelli placed 30th in the state, junior Dimitar Gachev placed 26th, and junior Matt Behnke placed 30th. These students will represent EGHS in Automotive/Carpentry on April 12 in Springfield and will have an opportunity to win the state title and a $35,000 scholarship.
According to sponsor and automotive teacher Jeffrey Zdenovec, "Honorable Mention goes to all of our SKILLS USA members for their hard work and dedication throughout the past few months: seniors Farhood Baiti, John Bennett, Joe Egan, Dereck Leon, Michael Padilla and Luis Rodriguez; juniors Melissa Cristofaro and Brian Monroe; and sophomores Jake Nardi, Daniel Niekrasz and Brandon Perfect.
