Sixteen District 214 Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps cadets will travel to San Diego, Calif., over winter break from Dec 28 - Jan 4 on an Orientation Trip. According to Wheeling NJROTC LCDR Jeff Morse, the purpose of the trip is to augment classroom activities, develop teamwork, and hone leadership skills. The cadets, their naval science instructors and chaperones will fly on a military aircraft (C-9 or 737), stay on base in 'motel-like' lodging, and eat about half of their meals at the galley.
"We will tour a Coast Guard ship and aircraft, a Navy ship, get 'underway' in small craft on the bay and tour the Marine Corp Recruiting Depot," said Morse. "We'll visit the Special Warfare training facilities, the USS Midway, the Air Museum Zoo, and Disneyland."
The trip will be an unforgettable experience for these young cadets in a program that teaches discipline, leadership, citizenship, self-reliance, decision-making, and service to community and country.
