Buffalo Grove's Corinne (Vossel) Ginder Inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame

Corinne Ginder (nee Vossel), a Family Consumer Science and Health teacher at Buffalo Grove High

Corinne Ginder (nee Vossel), a Family Consumer Science and Health teacher at Buffalo Grove High School, will be honored on Saturday, April 27, at Illinois State University in Normal, Ill., in celebration of her 2013 induction into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Hall of Fame.

Though a "Bison" for the past 14 years at BGHS, Ginder's path to Hall of Fame status began across town in Arlington Heights as a John Hersey High School "Huskie."  There, she burned the court as a basketball standout from 1990-1994, becoming the school's leading scorer of the time in girls basketball (1527 points), and led the way to Hersey's first sectional title.  Known for her consistency, passion and drive, then-Vossel garnered an impressive array of awards throughout high school, with just a few of the highlights listed below: "Coca-Cola Player of the Week" all four years; named the Chicago Tribune, Sun-Times, and Daily Herald All-Area Player and All-State Team 1992, '93, and '94; Chicago Sun-Times Woman Athlete of the Week ('92 & '93) and Daily Herald All-Area Team Captain and Player of the Week ('94); and MVP of the IBCA Game ('94), as well as numerous other accolades.

Vossel continued to command the court throughout her collegiate career at Illinois State University, where she set numerous records during her four years there, 1994-'98, finishing with a grand tally of 1,229 points.  On the final home game of her senior year at ISU, she scored a whopping 33 points.

Basketball was an interest for her early on in life. As a 10-year-old, Vossel won a McDonald's drawing to attend a clinic by a second-year player named Michael Jordan, who was recovering from a severe ankle sprain at that time, which shortened his rookie season.  She actually beat Jordan in a shoot-around, was invited to ride in his Corvette to a McDonald's in Oak Brook for promotional photos and souvenirs, and then asked to serve the next evening as a Bull's game "ball girl" at the old Chicago Stadium.

As she matured, her outstanding work ethic served her well as she maintained good grades while giving her all in athletics during high school and college.

"I remember all the rough times doing homework on road trips in hotels, O'Hare Airport, on buses, plane terminals, field houses, gyms, locker rooms, and in flight on airplanes," says Vossel (now Ginder).  "As a scholarship athlete, you work for your education."

She is now married to Steve Ginder, a teacher in Lake Zurich School District 95, and the couple has three children.  She does some volunteer basketball coaching at her children's school, St. Peter's Lutheran School in Arlington Heights, but may venture into high school coaching or athletic administration in the future, as her schedule permits.

"Right now," Ginder reflects, "I couldn't be happier with the blessings in my life."
