Buffalo Grove's 2nd Annual Poetry Slam Includes Workshop/Performance by J.W. Basilo, Noted Chicago Spoken Word Artist

Back by popular demand for the second year, Buffalo Grove High School will present a Poetry

Back by popular demand for the second year, Buffalo Grove High School will present a Poetry Slam on Friday, April 5, during all three lunch hours in the school's Community Room.  Students and staff members are invited to reveal their creativity and love of verse, by either reading a poem or sitting back and enjoying the work of others.  Anyone who signs up may share three minutes of poetry with the audience, whether an original work or a piece by a favorite published poet.

Following the event, a workshop will be held for seniors in Creative Writing and Advanced Creative Writing classes, as well as Acting I and II students and Poetry Slam attendees, led by J. W. Basilo, artistic director of Chicago Slam Works.  The students will write and perform their work, and will also be treated to a performance by Basilo.

An award-winning Chicago writer, performer, humorist, musician, and educator, Basilo's stage act is a blend of poetry, music, comedy and storytelling.  He is one of the most sought-after and compelling spoken word artists working today.  His one man dramedy, No One Can Fix You, debuted in 2009 to rave reviews in Chicago, Seattle, and New York City.  When not performing onstage, Basilo teaches writing and performance to youth and adults all over the country.
