2013 Stevenson-Buffalo Grove High School Chapter of Relay for Life

Celebrate, remember, and fight back against cancer by coming to the Buffalo Grove Relay for Life!

Celebrate what you and other survivors have overcome in the trek through cancer, remember people who have been affected by the disease, and fight back against cancer! Come to Relay for Life at Buffalo Grove High School on June 14th from 7 pm to 8 am June 15th; this is your chance to learn about how cancer has affected people in your area, and have fun with family and friends!

Relay for Life is an all-night event that fundraises for the American Cancer Society to support cancer research and treatment. This year, Buffalo Grove High School will be hosting the Stevenson-Buffalo Grove chapter of the global-wide event!

Individuals join or form their own "teams" that come together at the event to walk laps around the high school's track. The goal is to have at least 1 person from each team walking around the track continuously throughout the night, symbolizing the long journey that many cancer victims have had to struggle through.

While the desired goal for each participant is to raise $100 and stay the whole time, it's not a must. Those not staying all night leave at 11 pm. Participation in the event is $10, and survivors can participate at no charge. To sign up for the event, go to relayforlife.org/BuffaloGroveIl. Here, you can create your own team, join an existing team, or sign up to walk the survivor lap.

In addition, there are many amazing ceremonies during the event, such as the Survivor Lap, where cancer survivors walk 1 lap around the track to start the event. Later in the night when it's dark, the Luminaria ceremony takes place to recognize cancer victims, where an array of personalized luminaria bags and candles are set up around the track. Both ceremonies celebrate and remember loved ones who had or are having to fight through cancer.

If you are or if you know of people close to you who have or are battling cancer, make them aware of this amazing opportunity! Participation in the Survivor Lap is free, and prior to the event, survivors are welcome in the Survivor Tent, with food, t-shirts, and more.

Also, there's lots of food, entertainment, games, and much more, making it a spirited and life-changing event that will be fun for everyone! Even if you haven't been personally affected by cancer, everyone who signs up to take part in this event makes a difference!
