Stolman Announces Initiative to Combat Rising Property Taxes
Republican candidate for Lake County Treasurer David Stolman announced today an initiative to help Lake County residents combat increasing property taxes.
“Illinois has the 2nd highest property taxes in the Country, and Lake County specifically has the highest property taxes of any county outside the Northeastern United States. Something has to be done to combat rising property taxes for our already over-taxed homeowners,” said Stolman. “If honored by the voters of Lake County to be able to serve them as Treasurer, I have an initiative I would institute on day one that would help them lower their property taxes.”
Stolman’s initiative centers on increasing the transparency of Lake County’s property tax bills. With one of the least transparent tax bills of the surrounding counties, homeowners have difficulty seeing where their tax dollars are being spent. By increasing the transparency of Lake County’s property tax bills, both in print and online, taxpayers will be able to see how much they are paying to each unit of government.

Stolman explained: “Some candidates in Lake County, including my opponent, claim they are helping homeowners lower their property tax burden by assisting them with the appeals process. This is a very important responsibility that is already fulfilled by the Lake County Assessor, but it is a short-term band aid for homeowners because it only temporarily shifts the ever-increasing tax burden to other homes in the community. The only long-term solution is to decrease government spending. My initiative will equip taxpayers with the necessary information, and then I will stand alongside them to fight for responsible spending at the local level. This is the only way to finally reduce the heavy burden property taxes place on our families and seniors.”
