SUPERMAN: Who knew he was Jewish? Find out at Congregation Beth Judea on Sunday, February 10 at 4:00 PM when Larry Tye will be sharing his tale with us.      Prize-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author, Larry Tye, has written the first full-fledged history, not just of the Man of Steel, but of the creators, designers, owners and performers who made him the icon he is today. Many know that Superman's creators and publishers were Jews, but the evidence of the ethnicity of the Man of Steel himself is compelling --- from his Kryptonian name Kal-El (Hebrew for 'vessel of God'), to an original story straight out of Exodus (like Moses, he was saved by his parents floating him off to freedom and adoption by Gentiles, Martha and John Kent), to his Earthly name of Superman (any name ending in MAN is a superhero, a Jew or, in this case, both). All that can be a wonderful lens into American popular culture and Jewish cultural history, and the timing to celebrate that is now, as Superman is about to turn 75.      Larry Tye will be sharing his tale with us. All ages are welcome to attend. This program is open to all members of the community and the cost is $5/person for a Beth Judea member and $7.50 if you are not a Beth Judea member. All children 12 and under are free. Light refreshments will be served.      Please RSVP to the Beth Judea office at 847/634-0777 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting            847/634-0777     end_of_the_skype_highlighting or lneiman@bethjudea.org by Thursday, February 7. Beth Judea is located on IL Route 83 and Hilltop Road, Long Grove.
