Bohemian Rhapsody: Buffalo Grove Symphonic and Jazz Bands set to Rock Stevenson PAC on May 4th

(Buffalo Grove, IL.) The Buffalo Grove Symphonic and Jazz Bands are preparing an exciting and dynamic repertoire for their May 4th concert at Stevenson High School’s Performing Arts Center. Entitled “Bohemian Rhapsody” in a nod to the geographic location of many of the composers, and the Bohemian lifestyle of 1950’s America, the spring concert features works by Gershwin, Dvorak, Smetana, Puccini, and Nelhybel, to name a few. There is perhaps another purpose behind the title, however sources within the band are remaining tight lipped at this time.

The concert will begin at 7:00pm with the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band, under the direction of Founding Conductor and Musical Director Howard M. Green. The ensemble is comprised of Buffalo Grove area residents ages 18 to, well; they’d rather not say. It is a diverse group of professionals, students, musicians, super heroes, and everything in between. This band of merry music makers congregates every Thursday night to rehearse at Meridian Middle School in Buffalo Grove in order to represent their city with the best possible performances.

Midway through the band’s energetic show, the Buffalo Grove Jazz Band will take to the stage with special guest soloist Dr. Joe Lill, and lay down some cool charts. Dr. Lill is a long-time member of the North Park University faculty, where he teaches trumpet and conducts the Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band. In addition to performing the Hummel Trumpet Concerto with the Symphonic Band, he will lend his talents to the Jazz lineup. The Jazz Band will perform familiar classics to include: Summertime (Gregory & Ira Gershwin); ‘Round Midnight (Thelonius Monk & Cootie Williams), and more.
