Textbook Zone Sells College Textbooks For Less

One business owner is giving the College of Lake County and Harper College bookstores a run for the money by selling textbooks at a discount.

Going back to school is expensive, especially if you're a college student who needs to buy textbooks. That's where the Textbook Zone comes in, offering students the same materials sold at the College of Lake County bookstore, but for less.

The Textbook Zone opened in Washington Square, across from , about two years ago. Owner Berj Arakelian also operates a similar store near Harper College.

Through the Freedom of Information Act, the store gets a list of the textbooks used by CLC professors, buys them directly from the publisher or manufacturer, then sells them at a discount.

Customers who pay in cash receive a 10 percent discount. Overall savings can be up to 30 percent, said Arakelian.

Another perk of buying at Textbook Zone, he said, "is our customer service."

In addition to selling college textbooks, the store does special orders and has a rental program. The store also buys back used textbooks. Their busiest time of year, of course, is at the beginning and end of each semester.

Non-college students can also buy books at Textbook Zone.
