Rogan's Leaves Cambridge Commons, Grocery Store Plans Remain in the Works

Rogan’s Shoes closed its doors in Cambridge Commons this week to complete its westward relocation. Vacating the anchor space makes room for Fresh Farms to move in, but residents shouldn’t expect to see immediate grocery store construction.

“At this time, we do not have a timeline for any activities at Cambridge Commons. We are still working with the developer concerning terms. Hopefully we will know more in the coming weeks,” Village Manager Dane Bragg wrote in an email to Patch.

While work has been underway in the previously vacated storefronts on the east side of Buffalo Grove Road, the property owner does not yet have demolition permits required to overhaul the former Rogan’s space, Bragg said.

The redevelopment plans call for reconfigured interior space a new brick façade for the shopping center, located at the southeast corner of Dundee and Buffalo Grove roads.

Shopping center owner Nick Vittore said last summer that construction would take about a year and a half.

Buffalo Grove has already entered an economic incentive agreement with Vittore, which states that the village will collect the first $85,000 in local sales tax generated by the grocery store. After that, sales tax revenue will be split evenly between the village and the developer, allowing the developer to recoup up to $1.1 million over an 11-year period.

Meanwhile, Rogan’s Shoes is scheduled to reopen June 1 in its new location. The store is moving to 1300 West Dundee Road, in the Strathmore Square shopping center just west of Buffalo Grove High School.
