Plan Ahead for Paczki Day in Buffalo Grove

Deerfields Bakery will offer 16 flavors of the traditional Mardi Gras treat. Paczkis will also be sold at nearby Spunky Dunkers.

Buffalo Grove residents in search of a packzi fix don't have far to look. Deerfields Bakery is marking Paczki Day with 16 flavors of the popular pastry.

Paczkis, to some, are a last hurrah of sorts on Fat Tuesday (also called Mardi Gras or Paczki Day), which falls the day before the start of the Lenten season. Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting for Catholics.

At Deerfields Bakery, paczkis will come filled with custard, an assortment of fruits and even cookies 'n cream, among others.

For those who don't want to risk the possibility of empty bakery shelfs on Feb. 12, advance orders can be placed by phone or by fax until 1 p.m. Feb. 11.

Packzis will also be available from Spunky Dunkers, the Arlington Heights donut shop located across the street from Buffalo Grove High School. According to its Facebook page, orders can be placed online in advance, and the shop will also sell them on Feb. 12.
