Online Auction Offers 102 Ways to Support Buffalo Grove Theater

Autographed movie and sports memorabilia will go to the highest bidders. The auction will support the theater's effort to raise money for digital projection equipment.

Buffalo Grove Theater is stepping up its fundraising efforts as it nears its deadline for purchasing digital project equipment.

Theater owner Debbie Benjamin said this week that the theater is “far away” from raising  to purchase the equipment it requires to stay in business.

The theater’s latest fundraising effort is an online auction featuring autographed movie and sports memorabilia.

The auction runs through March 17. The 102 auction items include a basketball autographed by Magic Johnson, a soccer ball signed by David Beckham and a Harry Potter movie poster signed by the main cast members.

Still underway is the theater’s effort to raise money through the sale of admission and concession packages. The offers range from $25 to $1,000.

Buffalo Grove Theater currently projects its movies by 35-millimeter film. Because film movies will no longer be available to theaters by the end of the year, many privately owned theaters are reaching out to their communities for financial support.

Benjamin said she must install digital equipment in her five-screen theater by the end of April in order to secure a discounted price.

“This theater has been in the community for over 20 years and we hope that with this auction we will be able to raise the money to keep it there,” reads a statement on the theater’s online auction page.
