Mariano's Fresh Market will purchase the Dominick's store on Route 22 in Buffalo Grove, according to Crain's Chicago Business.

The Buffalo Grove store is one of 11 that the grocery chain, owned by Roundy's, will acquire, according to Crain's.

The news comes as Dominick's prepares to close all 72 of its Chicago market stores. The stores, which include three locations in Buffalo Grove, are scheduled to close by Dec. 28. New Albertson's, the parent company of Jewel-Osco, has purchased four of the stores. Buyers have not been announced for the remaining 57 Dominick's stores, including Buffalo Grove's other two locations.

The Dominick's at 450 Half Day Road is expected to be converted into Mariano's one to two months after its purchase, which is scheduled for this month, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Other stores included in the purchase include the Dominick's locations in Northfield, Park Ridge and Gurnee, according to the Tribune.

Roundy's was scheduled to discuss its 11-store purchase during a conference call at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 2.

This is the best possible outcome. Mariano's is so much better of a store than Dominick's. Now the only issue will be whether the existing parking will be enough. Anyone that's been to the Vernon Hills Mariano's knows what I mean. Good problems......

YES!!!!!! We were hoping that Mariano's would take over this location and our wishes have been answered. I am ready to stop shopping at Jewel as they continuously discontinue products that I've always purchased and I never get a response when I write to corporate headquarters. Jewel is out - Mariano's is in!

This is great! I was hoping they would move into the Lake Cook Road location... maybe someday. No more having to go to the Palatine location. I'm with Jilly... so long Jewel! Though I do feel bad for Sunset Foods in Long Grove. They may not handle the new competition very well. Oh well...

It's nice that some of the Dominick's being bought up. It's a shame that the one on Buffalo Grove Road and Dundee isn't, The location is terrific and it is one of the newer ones as well. Also, there isn't another grocery store on the South side of Lake Cook Road (Cook County side).

bg1119, there will be a new grocery store where Rogan Shoes was located, so that will take care of Buffalo Grove Road/Dundee intersection. Besides, that location isn't large enough for a Mariano's. Plus if you read the police blotter, there seems to be more retail thefts at the BG Road/Dundee Dominick's location than there is at the other two locations.

We, who shop at Dominick's at 22 and BG Road are thrilled Mariano's is buying our store. However, we have been shopping there for years. We know the employees and they know us. We see them often and they are like our friends and neighbors. They know our desires. They cater to our needs. They know the community. Mariano's, PLEASE rehire them, and at salaries commiserate with their many years of dedication and experience. Dominick's may have failed us, but the faithful employees never did.

I am really sad that Mariano's did not buy the Bannockburn store. It was the best Dominick's and would have been very successful. They have a wonderful staff, as well.
