Fun in Forecast for Weekend’s Prairie View Pet Festival

Best Friends Pet Care in Prairie View is inviting animal lovers to come out this weekend to help celebrate its 20th anniversary.

The Pet Festival will have many activities for canines and their families, including professional pet photography, a demonstration by the Wheeling K9 Unit, and games and prizes for both children and dogs.

Local animal rescue groups will be featuring adoptions. A rally obedience trial run also will be held during the festival.

“This event is meant to be a big thank you to the community — we are looking to have a great time with the animals and their families to kick off summer,” said Karyn Chylewski, Best Friends manager.

A number of raffle prizes including a full week of doggie day camp ($125 value), gift certificates for boarding and grooming and a trip for four to Walt Disney World® are among those that will be offered.

Special treats such as doggy ice cream and cookies will be offered over the entire weekend.

The private dog park will be open for free play during the event, and a special $10 discount will be offered to attendees for dog park memberships-normally $49 per year-starting in June.

The Pet Festival will be from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, June 2.

For those who can’t make it to the festival, free doggy ice cream and cookies will still be offered from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday, June 3.

“For a lot of people, pets are like children — a very important part of the family. This is a way to help our customers and new friends enjoy a great time with their animals,” said Deb Bennetts, Best Friends public relations manager.

Best Friends Pet Care was founded in 1992 and opened its location in Prairie View in 1998. The company created the first national hotel chain for pets, and offers boarding, day camp, grooming and training for dogs and cats all under one roof.
