Chamber of Commerce Marks 40th Anniversary

Village officials recognize leaders with plaque.

The Buffalo Grove Village Board honored the Monday night with a plaque marking the organization's 40th anniversary. The plaque was presented again by Village President Jeff Braiman during the monthly lunch meeting held Tuesday at .

The Chamber, which was established in March of 1972, is a non-profit organization that provides networking, marketing, education and referrals for its members, who represent many facets of the business community.

Membership consisted of about 35 members when the group first formed, said Lynne Schneider, the organization's executive director. It remained steady for about 15 years, until a member took charge of recruiting and doubled its membership in 1987, she said. Today, the Buffalo Grove Chamber of Commerce includes about 330 members, making it one of the largest in Lake County.

Over the past 40 years, the Chamber has had only five employees, said Schneider, who joined the staff as an administrative assistant in 1989 and worked her way up to the top. Today, the organization is run by Schneider and Mark Groves, who serves as membership director. It is . Scott Fishkin serves as the 2012 president.
