A New Owner for Long Grove Confectionery

Long Grove Confectionery was taken over by a new owner this week.

The Buffalo Grove-based company was purchased by Arway Confections, a family-owned business in Chicago. Both the Buffalo Grove facility, where confections are made and sold, and the Long Grove Confectionery store will remain open, according to a press release from Arway.

Long Grove Confectionery owner John Mangel is retiring, and his son, David, who serves as vice president, will “play an active role in sales and product development,” according to the release. Dwayne Hallan will remain director of operations.

“Don’t worry, our high quality chocolates will all stay the same. AND we are trying to include the ability to purchase [online],” Long Grove Confectionery posted on its Facebook page.

The two Long Grove facilities will join Arway’s manufacturing plant.

The sale comes a week after Long Grove Confectionery employees were notified that the company was going to shut down due to financial struggles, the Daily Herald reported. A quick deal with Arway was finalized June 12, saving the jobs of almost 100 employees, the paper said.

Like Long Grove Confectionery, Arway Confections supplies chocolates and other sweets to distributors and retailers, and also operates a retail store called Chicago Candy & Nut
