Lions to offer free hearing screenings at Senior Expo

The Lions Club of Buffalo Grove will sponsor free hearing screenings during the annual Senior Citizen Expo set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 24 at the Arboretum Club, 401 Half Day Road, in Buffalo Grove.

Coordinated by the Buffalo Grove Park District and the Village of Buffalo Grove, the expo is designed to offer senior citizens a chance to interact with a variety of vendors and service providers who have agreed to come together under one roof. In keeping with the theme this year—"A Rainbow of Opportunities"—the Lions Mobile Hearing Screening Unit will be available under the canopy at the main entrance of the Arboretum.

Seniors interested in a screening should look for members of the newly formed Lions Club of Buffalo Grove, a branch of the Arlington Heights Lions Club, to sign up for a time slot during the event. The 15-minute hearing screenings—offered on a first-come, first-serve basis—are conducted in groups of five people at a time.

"Since protection of our hearing is so important, we hope senior citizens attending the expo take full advantage of the hearing screenings," said Dennis Spaeth, president of the Buffalo Grove Lions Club. "If potential hearing problems are detected during the screenings, seniors will be referred to hearing professionals for further evaluation and treatment."

Though the Lions organization is likely best known for its work to prevent blindness, there are nearly 1.4 million members in more than 45,000 clubs around the world who volunteer their time and effort to help people in their communities in many different ways—including free screenings for hearing impairment.
