Beth Tikvah's Community Garden Gan Tikvah -Our Garden of Hope
Thanks to the dedicated members of the Social Action Committee, our Community Garden was built and then dedicated on May 19, 2013. As of today, approximately 20 Beth Tikvah familieshave tended the garden this spring and summer. They have planted, watered, weeded and are now picking the harvest each Sunday around mid‐day. The first harvests were the early producing crops of lettuce, spinach, sugar snap peas, swiss chard and herbs. We then proceeded to harvest cucumbers, zucchini, beets and radishes and string beans. We are now into the squash and melons, onions and eggplants Additionally, with some of the crops finished for the season, we have replanted beans and radishes and beets. Our garden has produced approximately 350 lbs. of food which has been delivered to aPADS/WINGS shelter along with produce being distributed to both the Palatine and SchaumburgFood pantries. The heavy produce is still to come with the melons, etc. getting ready for picking.Hopefully, the beautiful gourds which are rapidly overtaking the lawn and fence of the garden willbe ready to decorate the Bima for the High Holidays and Sukkot. Please join in any Sunday forsome great companionship with other BTC families, marvel at the growth of the plants and feel thesatisfaction of harvesting this wonderful, healthy food for those less fortunate
