District 214 Solo Competition

Township High School District 214 will present a recital featuring
outstanding soloists in the annual Concerto Competition. Seven pieces performed by eight finalists, representing several of the district's high schools, will compete for the opportunity to perform as a featured soloist with the Honors Orchestra at the school district's Honors Music Festival on March 2. 

The competition began in October when all interested District 214 band, orchestra and choral students, submitted a recording containing a solo work. The top competitors from the district were ultimately selected to participate in the upcoming recital competition.

This year's finalists Buffalo Grove High School senior Sarah Farbman and John Hersey High School senior Erin Wells, who, will perform a duet, Bassoon Concerto in F major by Johann Baptist Vanhal and Wheeling High School senior Samantha Zuba of Wheeling, performing the aria "Batti Batti O bel Masetto" from Mozart's Don Giovanni.

Each finalist will receive a $50 honorarium, which will be presented to them at the recital.
