Bestselling children's fantasy author John Flanagan

John Flanagan, author of the internationally bestselling children’s fantasy book series The Ranger’s Apprentice, will visit two Lake County public libraries on Tuesday, Nov. 8 as part of his two-week 2011 U.S. book tour:

  • 4:00 p.m. at the Warren-Newport Public Library in Gurnee, Ill.
  • 7:00 p.m. at the Vernon Area Public Library in Lincolnshire, Ill.

The Ranger’s Apprentice series originally consisted of just 20 short stories, written by the author to encourage his then-12-year-old son to enjoy reading. The series has come a long way since then, now comprising 10 novels with millions of copies sold in 20 countries.

An epilogue volume, “Ranger’s Apprentice: The Lost Stories,” was released on Oct. 4. Inspired by questions and letters sent by his loyal readers over the years, this collection of "lost" tales fills in the gaps between the Ranger's Apprentice novels. On Nov. 1, the publisher will release “Brotherband Chronicles: The Outcasts,” the inaugural volume in Flanagan’s new adventure series.
