9/11 Commemorative Event

9/11 Tenth Anniversary Commemoration   

As many of you know 2011 marks the 10thAnniversary of the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band.  It also marks the 10th Anniversary of a much more somber kind – the 9/11 tragedy – a sad day to be certain and one that is etched in most peoples’ memory.

Out of that horrific series of events were acts of bravery, courage, and resolve.

On Sunday afternoon, September 11, 2011 at 3:00 pm  at Buffalo Grove High School, Buffalo Grove this commemorative event will take place.

The Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band will perform numerous patriotic pieces highlighted by a performance of Aaron Copland’s “A Lincoln Portrait”, narrated by Wayne Messmer, who will also sing the Star Spangled Banner. An Honor Guard comprised of members of the US Military and a local Boy Scout Troop will post the colors. An invocation and benediction will be provided by Rev. Margaret Gramley of Kingswood Methodist Church and Rabbi Lisa Bellows of Congregation Beth Am. Speakers will include Village President Jeffrey Braiman, as well as members of the Buffalo Grove Police and Fire Departments and the US Military.

The event is free.
