The Golfers Are Out

With all the hobbies I’ve had over the years (and I’ve had a lot), I’ve never attempted to golf. I grew up around golfers, and my dad is an avid golfer, yet I’ve never had the patience to begin a hobby/sport/passion that takes so much time to learn/play/try.

With the weather starting to turn, I’ve seen plenty of golfers out and about as well as heard about lots of leagues forming. Amongst them is a group of ladies that call themselves the Buffalo Gals & Golf League. These women play at our very own and have been playing together for many years.

Buffalo Grove resident Mary Reisz is on the board at the club and a past president. She plays at the Buffalo Grove Golf Club mostly because of her love of the game, the competition and the great social aspects it offers. She says about the league, “The positives are many, especially the lifelong friendships." She also told me the staff at the BG golf course are fantastic and are always very helpful. 

Sari Waiz, another member of the league and also from Buffalo Grove says, “It’s my escape on Tuesdays. The ladies are a very mixed group, which I love. There is every type of person, including a parochial school teacher who grew up on a farm in Minnesota to someone born in Israel. Some of the golfers in this league are incredible.”

I reached out to Paula Wagasky, golf pro at the club, to find out what makes this public course unique. She didn’t miss a beat and replied, “It’s the courteous staff and the way they make people feel special.”
