Lake County Residents Invited to Property Tax Forum

The Oct. 18 event will include direction on how to file a tax appeal.

Lake County residents are invited to attend a property tax forum from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 18 that will include guidance on assessment appeals. The forum will take place at the Vernon Township Community Center, 2900 N. Main St., Buffalo Grove.

The informational forum will help residents understand their property assessment and answer questions such as why property taxes continue to increase despite decreasing home values and what homeowners can do to help reduce their property taxes.

Vernon Township Assessor Gary Raupp and Chief County Assessment Officer Marty Paulson will provide one-on-one assistance with the appeal process (the deadline for Vernon Township residents to appeal their assessment is Oct. 29), so attendees are asked to bring a copy of a recent appraisal and their assessment notice. The event is also sponsored by State Rep. Sid Mathias (R-Buffalo Grove) and Lake County Board Chairman David Stolman.
