Buffalo Grove Neighborhood Gathers For Block Party

Residents of the "Old Buffalo Grove" area, east of Weidner Road, spent Saturday enjoying live music and good company.

A group of Buffalo Grove residents didn’t let stand in the way of their block party. About an hour after the storm passed, dozens of residents of East Beechwood Court, Estate Drive and surrounding streets gathered on what is typically a quiet cul-de-sac to hear live music, enjoy food and socialize.

More than 200 residents were invited to the gathering, which some said was the first time the neighborhood had held an outdoor party in about 30 years.

The neighborhood is like a “close family,” Jennifer Petterec said. She and her husband, Dan, sold their house in 2007 after needing more space following the birth of their triplets. They remain in touch with their former Buffalo Grove neighbors and returned Saturday for the party.

The party's theme was "rockin' luau." Those who gathered on the street sang along with and admired the talent of the Lee family, whose Hawaiian group, Makani, performed native songs and dances.

Industrial Drive member Mike Terson, who was one of the block party organizers, said he thinks all neighborhoods can benefit from such gatherings.

“I think when people socialize and meet people in their neighborhood, it makes the neighborhood better,” he said.

While he knew most of the attendees, “I do see some people here who I don’t recognize. I think that’s spectacular,” he said.

The party also included a bouncy house for children, visits by and , games such as Baggo and badminton and food sold by .
