Expert from Radford Green to Speak at International Conference

Saba Ahmed, dementia unit coordinator for Radford Green at Sedgebrook, will be a featured speaker at the Alzheimer’s Association-International Conference (AAIC) in Boston later this month.

The AAIC is a prestigious forum in which global leaders working with individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia, share ideas, practices and information. The program is international and multidisciplinary.

Ahmed’s presentation is entitled “Connecting the Vocational History of the Patient in Early Stages of Dementia with the Generation of Today Through Integrative Programming.”

Earlier this year, Radford Green earned its certification as a Dementia Unit from the Illinois Department of Public Health. Ahmed, who was instrumental in receiving the certification, has introduced the intergenerational initiative, which she’ll discuss, to the residents at Radford Green. “The residents enjoy sharing their vocational past and their career history with their peer residents and staff. Student volunteers are paired up with residents who are able to share their vocational and career experiences. The residents feel valued. What the students take away is profound, as they are learning from residents who in their past, were seasoned professionals. They still have the capacity and ability to share their stories and it’s to everyone’s benefit,” Ahmed said.

“Saba’s commitment to dementia care exemplifies Radford Green’s philosophy of individualized, person-centered care. It is a privilege that she was invited to speak at the AAIC,” said Denise Dale, administrator at Radford Green.

“I am honored to be able to present in front of world wide leaders in dementia care. I will be amongst experts and researchers in the field and will be able to learn from them. The opportunity to share my program idea is unbelievable,” said Ahmed.
